PlanOptica

Form 5500 data for developers and AI agents

Every U.S. retirement and welfare plan that files a Form 5500, cleaned and linked to its sponsor, providers, carriers and brokers. Read it as Markdown today. A JSON API and an MCP server are next.

Read any plan page as Markdown

Add .md to a plan URL. You get a short Markdown file with the plan, its sponsor, headline totals and the names of its providers. No key, no JavaScript, cached for a day.

curl https://planoptica.com/retirement/{ein}-{plan_number}.md
curl https://planoptica.com/welfare/{ein}-{plan_number}.md

Each HTML plan page also links its Markdown copy with <link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown">.

Other ways in

  • llms.txt: what PlanOptica is, URL patterns and the main pages, for LLM tools.
  • State CSV files: one file per state, with a free 20-plan sample.
  • Custom data: bulk extracts and analyses for a fixed price.

Questions

Is there a Form 5500 API?

Not a public one yet. Today agents can read any plan page as Markdown and download state CSVs. Join the waitlist and we will email you when API keys open.

What data is free?

Plan and sponsor identity, location, industry, headline totals (assets, participants, premiums) and the names of service providers, carriers and brokers. Fees, compensation, peer benchmarks, filing history and contacts come with Pro.

Where does the data come from?

Public Form 5500 filings from the U.S. Department of Labor (EBSA). PlanOptica rebuilds its warehouse on each DOL release and normalizes sponsor and provider names.

Are there rate limits?

Yes. Requests over the limit get HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Keep crawls polite: a few requests a second at most.
