HOW IT WORKS

From the filing to the file

01
Read the filing
Large plans attach a schedule of assets to Schedule H. We read every line of it.
02
Match the fund
Each line maps to a fund in our fund master: ticker, SEC share class, manager, vehicle.
03
Compare years
We line up each plan's two most recent filings and record what moved.
04
Check the total
A plan is in the file only when its holdings come close to its reported assets.

FAQ

Questions

Which plans are included?

Plans that file the full Form 5500 with Schedule H and attach a schedule of assets (line 4i). That is most plans with 100 or more participants. We add plans each night as filings arrive.

How current is it?

Each plan's newest filing, from plan years 2024 and 2025. Holdings date from the end of the plan year. Filings arrive up to 9½ months after that.

Why is a plan I know missing?

Some plans invest through a master trust and list only one line on 4i. Some attach a scanned image we cannot read yet. We leave a plan out rather than ship holdings that do not add up.

How do you decide a fund was replaced?

When a plan drops one fund and adds another in the same asset class in the same year, we pair them and show a confidence level. Treat medium-confidence pairs as a lead, not a fact.

Where does the recordkeeper come from?

Schedule C of the same filing: the provider paid for recordkeeping, then for loan processing. It is blank when the filing names neither.

Which plan includes the full files?

Team. The sample of the 20 largest 401(k)-type plans in each state, fund lines only, needs no account, and Solo includes the samples only. On Team, full files count toward 10 state downloads a month, the same count as the plan CSVs; both files for one state count once.

Can I get every plan that holds one manager's funds?

Yes, as a custom pull. National lists by manager, fund or target-date series ship as one CSV at a fixed price. See custom analytics.
