Common questions
Where does the data come from?
The U.S. Department of Labor publishes Form 5500, 5500-SF, and 5500-EZ filings under ERISA. We download the bulk feed daily, clean and normalize it, and add our peer benchmarks on top. Public data, made readable.
Is search really free?
Browsing and searching without an account is unmetered. A free account gets 50 searches per calendar month across retirement, welfare, companies, and providers, pooled across your team. The counter resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC. Solo and Team search is unlimited.
How many rows can I export?
Search-results CSV exports are capped per export, not per month: 100 rows on Free, 10,000 rows on Solo, 50,000 rows on Team. Any export needs a signed-in account. The 20-row per-state sample CSV is free and needs no account; the full per-state CSV is Solo or Team.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Monthly billing, no contract, cancel from your account billing page. If you cancel mid-cycle you keep access through the period you already paid for.
What counts as a seat on the Team plan?
One seat per active user account on your team. Seats are pooled across the team - invite or remove members from /account/team. The Team plan includes up to five seats.
Do you offer custom datasets or research?
Yes. We run engagement-led research and ship custom datasets for advisors, brokers, recordkeepers, TPAs, consulting firms, and private equity. One-off pulls land between $500 and $5,000; recurring deliverables run on monthly retainer. See /data/custom for examples or email hello@planoptica.com.
What if I need more than 5 or 10 state downloads per month?
Email us. Full per-state CSVs are a paid feature - 5 distinct states a month on Solo, 10 on Team - and the cap keeps them sized for individual research. For bulk needs - 50-state pulls, custom slices, recurring deliverables - we run those through the custom analytics service at /data/custom on a fixed-price scope.
How fresh is the data?
We check the DOL bulk file every night. DOL republishes it roughly once a month, and we rebuild the whole warehouse within a couple of hours of a republish, so the index is never more than one DOL release behind. New plan pages, new providers, and new benchmarks all land in that rebuild.
